Twice-Monthly Writing Contest

WRITING CONTEST UPDATE!:

August 08: New Halloween contest announced! See below for details.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

All writers have their own style of writing and their own stimuli to inspire their work, which is why we’ve decided to launch a little creative challenge!

Halloween is fast approaching, so we think it's high time Calliope showcases some good old-fashioned spooky stories!

So our end of summer, beginning of autumn/fall, contest is here. Send us a Halloween story of no more than 1500 words with the title "In the Dark". It can be about anything supernatural/spooky/ghostly/other-worldly you like. We're excited to see all the different interpretations of the title our readers come up with!

Comments & Questions

From Angela -- May 26, 2008

For the short story contest we can write about any subject we want just as long as it's entitled Summer play, is that correct?
I am unsure of the guidelines.. Such as does the entry have to be double spaced? Things of this nature.
If you could provide the answers I would appreciate it. Thanks for your time.

Yes, the title is a guide post that must fit in somehow with whatever story you end up writing. A given title will inspire every writer differently, so we want to see what Summer Play brings out in you.

The normal Submission Guidelines apply. Double spacing really is at your own discretion but it is standard practice when submitting written work to a publishing source to double space.

Best of luck! Look forward to reading your interpretation of Summer Play.
